As a Macintosh System Administrator for one of the three founders of Apple Computer Corporation, with over twenty-five years experience, students can be assured of quality, thorough and creative training in everything Mac, including the most over-looked aspect of Mac training: the basics. Because Macs are intuitive and easy to use it is often assumed that no real training or instruction is necessary for the Mac Operating System and its basic programs such as Mail and Address Book. With my training, students, both new and experienced Mac users, can quickly learn myriad time-saving shortcuts, tricks and the essential functions of their Macintosh and expand their capabilities immediately. Each learning experience is tailored to each individual or group of individuals and there is no end to my patience and understanding of the student's viewpoint and limitations. Learning is an ongoing dynamic process that requires the highest level of clear communication between student and teacher and it begins with the teacher. As a teacher I strive to make learning fun and easy—I take the bite out of learning Apple products. Switching from Windows to Mac? I have extensive experience with Windows and can help smooth the transition to Macintosh and show you how easy it is to make the switch to a superior system.
Beyond the basics there is the BIG picture and that is the overall setup and configuration of a Macintosh computer system, including printers and scanners in either a home or office networked environment. There are very specific ways to create an efficient, secure and easy to use system that eliminates months, maybe even years, of trial and error and piecemeal learning as you go. I've spent those years doing it so you won't have to. System processes include setup of home and office network, both hard-wired and WiFi wireless, backup strategies for keeping your valuable data, photos, and music safe in case of disk failure or other unexpected disaster, and how to protect your data from intrusion both on your computer and when surfing the internet. Security is the single most important aspect of using a computer on any network, and most people overlook it.
Software expertise includes Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Acrobat and InDesign, Filemaker Pro, Apple iLife Suite including iTunes and iPhoto, Mail, Preview, QuickBooks, Disc Utility, TechTool Pro and many more.
I am also an accomplished professional photographer and can show serious photography students how to improve their composition and lighting, as well as achieve stylistic special effects and web optimization with Adobe Photoshop, whether using a film camera or digital SLR.
