Personal Statement

THE average kid earns $4,188/4 YEARS IN MERIT scholarship per hour of class (Sample Schools for 2011: MIT, UC Berk, GT, UGA, Penn State, Bama, Arizona, Stanford) *I currently have availability for 1 students for the june test* First come first serve. (Saturday 7-10 or Mon 5-8) - Updated 3/26/2011 **KIDS averaged 31 on FEB Test WITH THREE KIDS scoring full scores on ENG/reading comp dec test my rates are higher than most, but then again, not many tutors can say that their kids grades have jumped so vastly that the ACT has taken notice... (12 points in 1 testing period). Many references upon request. BEST TEST PREP teacher sat/act Get to the 99% with EASE. Custom Curriculum. Learn how answer choices are created, and how to pick the right ones. Test making abides by a rule set. Learn the rules and how to use it to your advantage. DO NOT pass this opportunity strictly because of monetary concerns. I teach to give back, not for money. I'd be happy to work things out financially out if the kid is willing to put the effort in. ON THE FLIP SIDE, I require your child to be dedicated. I am a GaTech Graduate, with a Management Degree and Biomedical Background. I've retired temporarily from Corporate America to pursue research in theoretical statistics. In the interim, I try to give kids an opportunity that was ill afforded to me. Teaching Background - Top Teacher at Princeton Academy and Total Learning Center, private tutoring, phone tutoring etc. WHAT YOU CAN expect: (my kids' scores in small class and private tutoring environments): SAT Math: SAT Writing: 6/6 ACT English: 36 ACT Math: 36 ACT Science: 36 ACT Reading Comp: 34-36 I don't teach subjects unless most my kids can score full scores. Teaching Style - I teach from a test maker's standpoint, not a test taker's standpoint. "No-no's" - Calculators. If I see them in my class, they become my new calculators. If you need a calculator on the SAT or ACT, you have already missed the point of the question. FOR parent reading~! please understand the following: The sat is an IQ Test NOT an aptitude test. e.g. Geometry Algebra II Trig in 1 question. The ACT is an Aptitude test. e.g. Individual questions for each topic. The ACT English should NOT be taught from a "finding the right answer" standpoint. It needs to be learned from a POE standpoint. ACT Math is relatively straightforward. It's the same problems with different variables. ACT Science is NOT a science test! It is a logic and time management test. It should NOT be learned from a science standpoint. For the SAT Math you will see variance around the 800 mark, In the ACT Math, most of my kids score full scores consistently because they essentially test the exact same concepts/questions with different numbers... This is not true with the SAT Math. The last 50 points on the SAT is usually the hardest because it requires grasp of the concept of test making, not just test taking. Most kids know how to do the problems; they just lack application. I can not guarantee a perfect 800 but I can get kids pretty darn close. How long it will take depends on how much your child has already learned, how much he/she needs to learn, as well as how much needs to be UN-learned. Mental math is crucial to the SAT so there may be times you will have to stand over your kid and make him/her practice problem sets, which I know kids do not necessarily like. Also, the application of some math taught at school is incorrect; the readjustment takes time. I wish to inform you in advance that my schedule in fall is packed, therefore my time allotments may be inflexible. My teaching blocks are in 2-3 hour increments simply because kids need at least 2 hours to get into the material, and 3 hours is usually when their minds go poop, which makes learning efficiency drop like a rock. Current Program Offerings: ACT MATH ACT english ACT writing ACT science SAT math sat writing SAT grammar precalc - (School) calculus bc ap government AP politics SAT ii chem sat ii biology SAT ii Math IC / IIC and various other subjects. Unless otherwise noted, all tests are taught from a test maker's standpoint, i.e. what they are testing for, not a concept standpoint. Don't expect to learn science in ACT Science! parents *must* meet with me AT LEAST 1/2 hours (Free) to discuss classes before ANY classes can be signed up for. There is NO exception to this rule. This is to insure both you and I are on the same page. Availability is limited now due to academies having me teach additional classes. How classes are "signed up for": I will put up on Google Calendar my available tutoring times. A Gmail account is required as most of my teaching documents are hosted on Google docs. Sign-up will be first come first serve. Availability: limited I have time for 2 or 3 students this fall. Recommended Curriculum: Incoming Freshman Freshman Year: Precalculus, SAT or ACT, Math IIC (Year long tutoring with tests during summer) Sophomore Year: AP Calculus (Spring) / AP Gov and Politics and AP BIO (Fall) Junior Year: SAT II Chem / AP US History (Tutor recommendations available) / AP Stat Senior Year: Other AP Classes / AP World / AP Physics Governor's Honors Program preparation! 6 weeks all expense paid to an elite camp in Georgia. Top 60-80 students in each subject area will be accepted each year. It is held in Valdosta Georgia. (AP US History, World, and Bio should not be taking in conjunction with one another as they are memory intensive classes) Incoming Sophomore: Sophomore Year: Precalculus, SAT or ACT, Math IIC (Year long tutoring with tests during summer) Junior Year: AP Calculus (Spring) / AP Gov and Politics and AP BIO (Fall) Senior Year: AP US History (Tutor recommendations available) / World History / AP Physics Incoming Junior: Junior Year: Precalculus (Fall) / AP Calc (Spring and Fall) AP Gov and Politics / Math II C Senior Year: AP Physics / AP Statistics / Either AP US History or World History / AP Bio Incoming Senior: Senior Year: AP Calc / AP BIO / Either AP US History or World History / AP Physics (If you can take the work load) / Math IIC Cost Benefit: One of the two most valuable things is Time and Money. The objective is to reduce Time and Money spent pre-college. As you CAN get into college a Sophomore, saving a years tuition, as well as getting into Grad / Job early, tutoring is definitely something to consider. The amount invested in tutoring is minimal compared to the return you can receive. A year of tuition can be well in the tens of thousands. An extra years salary could be much more; not to mention scholarship money.
