Personal Statement
I recently graduated from Northern Arizona University cum laude with a BS in microbiology with a minor in chemistry. I am applying to medical school with the goal of becoming a primary care doctor.
I have been a biology and chemistry tutor for both Yavapai College and NAU since 2007. I often tutor intro. biologies including Bio 156, 181, 182, 201, 202. I also tutor microbiology, pathology, immunology, and multiple course in genetics. I tutor intro inorganic chemistry ), organic chem. (230 and 235), and biochemistry. I work well with students that are not typical learners. I focus on ways to understand the concepts and apply the details to the larger picture. I use a question/answer style to identify problem areas or where the student is at in understanding the material. I am good at helping develop learning techniques centered to the learners strengths and challenges with the course at hand.
With writing components, I focus on developing a strong thesis and a outline that answer the needed questions. This provides the foundation for a strong paper.
I have worked with many individuals with various disabilities and learning challenges. I have worked with younger students who are struggling to grasp the fundamentals in their educational foundation.
