Personal Statement

Hello, I hold a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from UMass and recently completed my post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. I love to teach and am excited to find myself with enough time to do so. I am currently a stay-at-home mom to two wonderful children. However, I miss the stimulating academic experience and am keen to share some of my knowledge. I would like to teach Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology. My teaching credentials include three years of working as a teaching assistant at UMass. During that time, I taught various subjects such as Biochemistry (for juniors and seniors), Biology (Freshmen) and Genetics (sophomores). My responsibilities ranged from addressing a full class of students to conducting one-on-one teaching sessions. Although, I enjoyed all the aspects of my work, I have to say that the opportunity to interact with my students at a one-on-one basis captivated and consolidated my enthusiasm and passion for teaching. I had a wonderful opportunity to serve as a mentor at the Northeast Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate's Summer Program for Undergraduate Research at UMass. During those two years, I was very happy to share my knowledge and guide many undergraduate students who were interested in pursuing their graduate studies and research. I am a very patient and systematic teacher and can tailor my speed and technique based on the individual student's needs. I believe that one can learn most effectively by fully utilizing their method of learning and potential. As a tutor, I will be there every step of the way to guide you and help you realize your inner strengths. Further, I strongly believe that being able to communicate one's thoughts effectively is key to academic success. I have very strong public speaking skills that have been honed over the years by many presentations at national meetings and symposia. In addition, as a testament to my writing abilities, I have published in many top peer-reviewed scientific journals. Thanks for taking the time to read about me and wishing you all the very best in your academic pursuits!
