Education and Qualifications

school: Liberty University

I recently moved to Lancaster, PA. I am looking for some part time tutoring work. I am an experienced tutor/teacher, especially in the life sciences (Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, etc…). I can also tutor Spanish, ESL, paper composition, writing, reading, and math. I can tutor both K-College levels. I have a B.S. in Biology from Liberty University and four years of graduate work in the medical sciences. In addition, I am fluent in Spanish. I can teach conversational Spanish as well as Spanish grammar and literature. Here is a quick synopsis of my teaching/tutoring experience: --Tutored Math/Science during undergrad. --Tutored underclassman in medical sciences at medical school. --Taught an 8th grade special needs class in Monte, Argentina. Taught all subjects. Classes taught in Spanish. --Taught 11th and 12th grade Biology for two years at a private school. --Tutored Biology, Spanish, Chemistry for 4-5 months at Brain Works (formerly Knowledge Points). --Taught Biology and other life sciences to a home school co-op group for about a year. --Tutored freelance off and on throughout the last 10 years in: Spanish, English composition, Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Chemistry, and ESL.

Personal Statement

Teaching is my passion. I believe that education is man’s most formidable weapon. It can either be used for the highest good or basest evil; the contingency, more times than not, is the teacher. So I, the teacher, try to teach in such a way that my students will use their abilities for the greatest good. My teaching philosophy is to take each student on an individual basis. I try to find a way to bring to light the subject matter in each student's mind. Soren Kierkegaard, the great existential philosopher, says it best: “Instruction begins when you, the teacher, learn from the learner; put yourself in his place so that you may understand . . . what he learns and the way he understands it.” It is my responsibility as an educator to divine the best way for each student to comprehend the material. All students can learn; one just has to find the way he/she learns. This can be challenging. It takes patience, understanding, caring, nurturing, and hard work, but it must be done to ensure the student’s success. And for me, it is the most rewarding experience in all life!
