Personal Statement
With each of my students, I focus primarily on their specific needs and their learning styles. I base my lessons on the Illinois learning standards and what is expected of students in the classroom. I've had the opportunity to teach in many grade levels and excited to add these teaching strategies in my tutoring sessions. I use different styles of activities to get the students to develop math, reading, and writing skills. I include visuals, hands on activities, games, and specific learning tools designed to fit each of my students needs.
First, I find it important to understand what my students already know in the subject matter; their prior knowledge is important in how I teach. My students are engaged in what they are learning and connecting new information to their own life; making connections. Secondly, I like to apply specific teaching strategies to their learning style. By combining these two important factors, my students have succeeded in reaching their goals. Finally, I implement assessments, such as homework or an activity to ensure my students are retaining what they learned so they can continue to learn.
In the last five years, I have aided and tutored students (K-9) in the school and home environment in the subject areas of math, reading, and writing. I have also worked with students who have special needs or IEPs. I believe every child has the ability to learn if given the right tools and strategies.
