Personal Statement
My experience as a tutor has included my student teaching while obtaining my M.eD. in Elementary Education. Total time to earn my M.eD. was 14 months. In that time, I had to observe classrooms and how the teachers methods differed. Many times, I was asked to participate in a lesson being taught. I had the opportunity to read to the students, assist with a phonics lesson, tutor a student in math, and administer a vocabulary quiz. In all, I student taught for sixteen weeks, nine of which I was completely responsible for classroom management and the students well-being. Lesson plans taught me how to teach to the middle percentage of my students, rather than favoring the higher level learners. As well, I learned how to make lesson modifications that would benefit ESL/ELL or special needs students.
My oldest son is in his second year of college and aspires to be a Psychologist. My youngest son is a freshman in high school and is in an International Baccalaureate program for advanced learners. His ultimate goal is to attend the Air Force Academy, become a commissioned officer, and fly an F-16 or F-35 for a living.
That said, just like I have goals and expectations regarding my children and their education, I have goals and expectations regarding the people I tutor. My promise to all my students is that I will always be on time and prepared to tutor. In return, I expect my students to be on time and prepared to learn.
If you can not make a tutoring session, please give me a courtesy call within 24 hours of our tutoring session. If I can not make a tutoring session, I will give you a call within 24 hours of our tutoring session.
