Education and Qualifications

certified: yes

This is my second year to teach fifth grade, but I have worked in education as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide for several years before that. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Elementary Education as well. I have experience in state assessments, as well as preparation for these assessments. I also feel comfortable tutoring in math, reading, and writing, as well as other core subjects.

Personal Statement

Personal Philosophy of Education Creating a developmentally appropriate environment is essential to facilitate learning in the classroom. I will provide an environment that is conducive to learning in order to promote the independence, self-control, and self-advocacy of all students. This environment will provoke students? curiosity and foster learning through various intelligences. Students will be shown respect by me, as well as by other students. Routines will be in place to facilitate consistency in all situations, and because of that, students can feel safe and assured that they will be treated fairly in my classroom. Planning and preparation is the key to providing my students with the environment they deserve. I will use state and national standards to guide my instruction, as well as take into account the needs of all of my students to meet their diverse needs. But most importantly, I will become an ever-learning student myself. I will continue to learn from research, my students, my colleagues, and my own mistakes and victories in order to grow as an educator and as a person. Not only do these aspects build on one another, but they are also essential for the others? success. My hope as an educator is to instill the love of learning in my students by personal example and the environment that I create for them. These characteristics of a developmentally appropriate classroom lay the foundation for a child to ultimately become a functioning member of society, both as a student and as an adult.
