Personal Statement
I recently graduated Magna Cum Laud from ASU with a degree in civil engineering and with a GPA of 3.62. As part of my coursework, I took over 30 credits in higher division math and physics classes. I am currently in graduate school studying transportation engineering and have a current GPA of 3.75. I also took and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE) in October of 2010. The FE exam is a highly intense, 8-hour exam that covers all topics of engineering from math to chemistry to designing a roadway or a simple structure. Before I transferred to ASU, I worked as a math tutor for the Glendale Union High School District for two years teaching math up to AP Calculus. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. While I was working for the high school district I taught math topics to in both languages.
I personally believe that mathematics can be fun and easily learned. The most important parts are having a teacher who can convey the "rules" in an effective and easily understood manner and a student who is willing to put in the effort. I know that I have the experience and know-how to teach effectively, and I am looking for the opportunity to tutor a student with the desire to learn.
I also have a strong artistic background. Before I decided to become a civil engineer I was a fine arts major. I enjoy painting and drawing, but my favorite is photography. I use a digital SLR camera to take pictures and I use programs like Photoshop and Aperture to edit them. So if you are wanting to learn how to take better photographs or how to use a certain photo editing software I would be happy to help you with that as well.
Please be aware that my hourly rate is up for negotiation depending on what the tutoring topic will be, prep time needed, and the duration of the tutoring period.
