Dear Parents and Students, Welcome! After finishing my graduate fellowship at Harvard, I began teaching high school in Virginia. Currently, I am looking forward to helping students achieve their educational goals, develop stronger writing skills, or pass standardized tests (SATs, SOLs, AP Language and Composition). Beyond that, I am experienced in helping high school students craft their best college application essays. Ask me about my college application essay tutoring system, featuring options which cater to your individual needs and deadlines. My educational background includes a graduate fellowship at Harvard University in English literature, a MA in English, a BA in English and Music, and a fifth-year fellowship in comparative French arts (University of Rochester). Most recently, I returned from England, where I studied at Shakespeare's Globe in a very special teacher program sponsored by the English-Speaking Union.

Personal Statement

Teaching is a joy to me; my style is enthusiastic and encouraging. I find the best results come from the student becoming more confident in themselves. This usually involves inspiring students to achieve their best, while giving them the resources, skills, and tutoring they need to succeed. I recognize that each student brings their own recipe of strengths and weaknesses to any tutoring session; it is my job to quickly uncover these unique gifts and show the student how to apply them to the work at hand. My teaching experience includes five years of teaching at the high school level and two years teaching a variety of college classes as I continued my own education. Research shows that one-on-one, individualized instruction brings the highest level of student improvement as compared to the group sessions at "tutor chains." I have seen personalized instruction improve my own students' scores, essays, and abilities. I cannot wait to help you or your child succeed as well. I have online or electronic tutoring available.
