Personal Statement

I am a thirty-nine-year-old mother of two. My daughters, husband, and myself are all dyslexic. I homeschooled both of my girls. They are now successful high school students, both on honor roll. I am well versed in all areas of English and am uniquely qualified to assist students who struggle in this area of education. As a student, I struggled with it. Now, I am currently working on my Bachelor's degree and am glad to share my expertise with any and all who wish to improve their school experience. I also am very knowledgeable in World and American history. My difficulties in school and my children's trouble with learning give me a special perspective on what the key premise to learning is. My educational philosophy is that learning happens for everyone everywhere. I am also a firm believer in the fable of the wind and the sun. It is impossible to achieve maximum success with force. It can only be achieved with gentle persuasion. Students with special needs are just that. They require a specialized form of instruction. It must fit their learning style and allow them to experience the joy of a successful education experience. Thanks to my philosophy on education, my youngest daughter is reading and understanding Shakespeare as a freshman in high school. She has also been invited to participate on the debate team as a result of her straight A performance in middle school.
