Personal Statement

Hello everyone. I am very excited to be on this website. I have spent a few years as a tutor in the past and found it to be rather rewarding and am eager to get back into it. When I was working a a tutor, the first time it was with a girl in the fifth grade. She needed help staying focused as well as learning the proper ways to study and get the most out of her homework assignments in order to be successful in the classroom. I have found that with tutoring it is very important to work with the student and come up with some easily identifiable and obtainable goals to work towards obtaining. An example of these would be, better study habits, turning in homework on time, improving grades, or maybe finding problem areas to improve on. I find it nice to have a daily check list or chart to keep a student on track on days when the tutor is not present as well. I also really think that tutoring needs to be fun and enjoyable and not just a requirement. The more a student can relate to the lesson, or look forward to tutoring time the more they are able to get out of the experience. I really enjoy math and working with numbers, I think that if looked at from an easier prospective anyone can enjoy and do well with math. I also find it very important to have proper study and homework habits, no TV or snack during study time. I also think that once a student has the correct skills needed for how to study, that is a skill they will use all throughout their lifetime even through college.
