Personal Statement

Since leaving the Coast Guard in 1994, I have been an engineer, real estate agent, graphic designer and web designer. Currently I freelance as a graphic designer and web designer. I've used computers since 1985, and I am very proficient with Microsoft Office Programs, in particular MS Word and MS Excel which I have been using since it was created in the mid 1980s. I used AutoCAD as an engineer from 1994 - 2003. In the late 1990s I started doing graphic design as a side business using Jasc Paint Shop Pro (now Corel) and Macromedia Dreamweaver. I took two (authorized training) Pro Tools (Audio Production and Editing) courses, and I still use Pro Tools for Audio editing to this day. Currently I work with the Adobe Suite for graphic and web design, and I primarily use Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver. I attended 1 course for Adobe Illustrator at Ringling College. All other skills have been self taught. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to graphic design which is why I use Adobe Illustrator much more than Photoshop. All software I use is legal licensed software, and I expect the same of my students. I encourage ethical behavior in life and in business. I'm a problem solver; I think creatively. If a teacher taught something in a way a student didn't understand, I can explain things in different ways giving the student an opportunity to look at it from an angle that makes sense to them. In my spare time, I ride a bicycle for exercise and I do martial arts. I am happily married, have no children, and love dogs. VERY Important: 1. I can not be in a house with cats; I am extremely allergic. 2. I prefer to work with PCs. If you have a MAC and are not used to working on MACs you should find another tutor.
