Personal Statement
I have been interested in mathematics as long as I can remember. However, it was in college that my true love started and I have been addicted to the real stuff ever since. I currently have three years of college under my belt from Otterbein University. Those fine years were dedicated to a Bachelor's in Mathematics and Certification to educate Adolescents to Young Adult from grades 7 to 12. I passed the Praxis Learning Test (PLT) as well as the Praxis Mathematics Test in April of 2011. Previous to that, I have spent significant time in the schools as a part-time classroom teacher and a tutor. Overall I have been tutoring for 4 years with great success in helping families achieve the goals they set.
Currently, the greatest need in mathematics is increased critical thinking and problem solving skills; along with the ability to apply these skills to any field of interest or real life task. I teach mathematics by inspiring students to hunger for more, instead of force feeding them facts. I use inspiring examples of authentic mathematics to foster a love and passion that leads to extraordinary results not only in grades, but in the overall student as a whole. One of my most memorable students was a boy who under my instruction achieved a passing grade on the OGT in the last section he had yet to pass, math. From there he went on to graduate and he received a full-ride scholarship to the college of his choice.
In my spare time I enjoy traveling, rock climbing, and swing dancing. I am the events chair for SwingColumbus and I teach weekly lessons for the Otterbein Swing Dance Club. If you are interested in a tutor who can not only develop a student's math skills, but also his or her character, contact me.
