Personal Statement

I would like to tutor your child! I am a certified theater/speech secondary education teacher with the State of Utah.I also have a current substitute license in Nevada. Currently I am a substitute teacher for the Washington County School District and Vista Charter School in St. George and Ivins, Utah. My experience is wide-ranging. I am from the Midwest and have lived there, plus Memphis, TN, Las Vegas, NV, and now St. George, UT. Living in all of these places I have picked up a wide range of teaching and tutoring methods including multi-cultural/multi-ethnic learners, multi-intelligence teaching, experience in teaching all grades from K-12, arts, reading emphasis and wide and varied experiences in the communication arts, English and other subjects. I have over 35 years of experience in a wide range of theatrical productions, public speaking and debate. I have directed, acted, written and done technical work in numerous dramas, comedies, musicals, melodramas, reader's theaters, theater and storytelling for children and educational theater. These include the following: -paid debate and forensics (speech) judge in Illinois, Wisconsin and Nebraska. Also a volunteer judge in Utah. -teaching experience with at-risk teenagers in Nebraska, Nevada and Utah in theater and the arts. -tutoring an ADHD boy ages 13-15 for two years. -professional educator/facilitator in both Nebraska and Nevada. This including performing dramas and skits as well as facilitating educational discussions in classrooms. In Nevada I was a Child Assault Prevention Facilitator and in Nebraska I worked for reachout where we used educational drama in classrooms for educational purposes. -directing, performing and teaching theater in Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Nevada and Utah. -my own businesses in Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Nevada where I directed and performed theater for profit. In addition I have an excellent knowledge of English and did my student teaching in English and theater (plus debate.) My business experience includes selling and writing advertising, proofreading and marketing. Finally I feel that I have something unique to offer, due to my wide and varied experiences. Being highly creative, I encourage that in children and youth as well. I am very encouraging and recognize that everyone has gifts and talents and I work to bring that out. I also have a current background check on file for my work as a substitute teacher. I want to make a difference by helping children and youth stretch their horizons by developing their self-esteem and letting their talent soar! I can help them do that and I appreciate your confidence in me.
