Konnichiwa!
I am a bilingual and bicultural tutor with 10 years of experience in teaching people from variety of backgrounds for various needs.
I have also worked as a professional Japanese orator, speechwriter, and even as a translator for a global Japanese corporation.
My training style is based on Adult Learning Theory - The more invested you are in the subject, the easier it will be to learn. For example, if you have a favorite Japanese Manga series, we can include that to build vocabulary words and learn sentence structure. For business professionals, we might role-play a business situation in English and see how that would play out in Japanese.
I also believe that learning Japanese is based on learning the basic system of rules that will give you a deeper understanding of the Japanese culture.
For example, the whole Japanese phonetic alphabet is based on AIUEO sounds. Knowing that will help you to pick up the sounds you will need to learn in order to have a conversation in Japanese.
I will use various textbooks (I mostly use University of Hawaii textbooks for basic grammar because it is systematic) to add structure and give homework but in order to learn quickly in a non-immersion environment, it will probably be best to take formal classes and use tutoring as a way to accelerate your learning.
