Personal Statement
I am a born and raised Japanese citizen who has recently moved to the United States. In 2007 I received my BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Hiroshima University and have 4 years of experience working in the overseas division of Mazda.
Based on my experiences growing up in Japan, studying engineering at a Japanese University, and working in a modern Japanese business setting, I am well qualified to tutor students of Japanese at all levels and can emphasize specific aspects of the Japanese language in my lessons. For example, growing up my family served as hosts to visiting students from the United States and Ireland, and I am well-equipped to prepare students for a potential stay in Japan, or, more simply, to give them an introduction to the Japanese language. For more advanced students, or those in need of learning Japanese for work purposes, I am capable of teaching students how to translate technical documents, interact in business settings in Japanese, and can prepare students to teach technical classes in Japanese (e.g. math, chemistry).
Specifically, my teaching methods focus around the introductory books "Japanese Step by Step" by Gene Nishi, which was developed to teach Japanese to full-time IBM employees in an efficient manner, as well as the classic introductory text "Japanese for Busy People" which contains a number of take home exercises.
I am very enthusiastic about working with new students and I look forward to hearing from you. I am available for tutoring sessions in person as well as via Skype and GoogleTalk.
Regards,
Kyoko
