Personal Statement

I am currently in my second year at Barnard College of Columbia University double majoring in Mathematics and Creative Writing. I can also read, write, and speak Hebrew fluently. Therefore I am able to tutor all levels of Math, Hebrew and English. During the year, I tutor other college students in Calculus 1. I have also tutored fifth and sixth graders in Pre-Algebra. I also currently tutor a sixth grader in Hebrew and have taught Hebrew to high school students who were proficient at an intermediate level. My tutoring methods differ from student to student. During the first few lessons I get a sense of how the student most effectively learns and then I alter my teaching method accordingly. For example, some students learn math best by doing the same type of problem over and over again until they feel they can do that type of problem confidently. Others can feel confident with a certain type of problem by having the fundamental concept explained to them and then practicing it a few times. The same idea applies to Hebrew and English. I really enjoy working with people, and I am very passionate about Math, Hebrew, and reading and writing English. Whatever your tutoring needs are, I would be happy to meet them.
