Personal Statement
I am a graduate in Law from the London School of Economics (LSE), in England. I also studied French Law in Strasbourg, France, for a year.
I am a qualified Barrister (lawyer), in England, having been admitted to the Bar in 2004. I practiced criminal and family law for around 4 years. A lot of my work involved representing juveniles.
I am also qualified to practice Law in California, having taken and passed the California Bar Examination this year. Admission Date: June 2010. Passed New York Bar, taken in July 2011.
My first experience of student tutoring was at the LSE, when I volunteered to assist students at a London school for the duration of an academic year. I then did the same voluntary work in France, for the same period of time. Therefore, I have almost 2 years' experience of tutoring, both one-on-one and in a group. In addition, I have helped to coach high school students who were participating in a national mock trial competition, and I gave presentations at colleges about practicing law as a career.
I am fluent in English, highly proficient in spoken Hebrew, and proficient in Hungarian, having grown up speaking all three languages. I took French and German at A-level (final school examinations in England) and all my studies in France were conducted in French, therefore I have a high level of proficiency in that language. I have a keen interest in Geography too. I have been learning Spanish for the past 12 months, and am currently at intermediate level.
I have, in the past, taken classes in Dramatic Arts (acting) and have participated in school debates and in public speaking activities. I also practiced public speaking on virtually a daily basis while appearing in court.
I am passionate about teaching, and have many appropriate qualities, such as patience, approachability, understanding, perseverance and respect. I am good at relating to young people of all ages and abilities, tailoring my teaching accordingly, and making it a very personal experience for the student. I also place a heavy emphasis on the encouragement of students to realize their potential and to develop their talents and abilities, through good organization and hard work. I truly enjoy working with young people to help them achieve their academic goals.
