Personal Statement
A few of my strengths include running a program that provides a combination of scholastic interactions and educational activities. This program extends out to other elementary teachers (including special education teachers) and the support of their education curriculum in a non-traditional classroom environment.
As a teacher and mentor, I believe in the theory of teaching the whole child; from academics to social skills. I also believe that a district curriculum should be diligently followed, as well as critical thinking programs. The curriculum I most recently taught from included but was not limited to the following; Lucy Calkins, Step-Up to Writing, America’s Choice Guide, and taught math and science using Everyday Math and Tracks Science. I also currently attend bi-monthly conflict resolution and communications workshops at the TIPP institute.
A few of my extra-curricular involvements were taking an active role in the improvement of ECS policies in eleven different schools as a representative and member of the Cherry Creek Extended Child Services (ECS). Also, in an effort to educate the importance of living green, I created and implemented a recycling program that extended out to other schools as well. I also played a prominent role in the school R.T.I. student improvement team, the discipline committee, facilitated a grass roots school wide talent show, and represented intermediate grades on School Improvement Committee.
Some points of great pride and importance are Power Teaching, classroom economics system, as well as thought provoking dialogue around the novel Huck Finn. Throughout my university coursework, I completed numerous classes related to teaching the differentiated learner, as well as, the development and integration of Individual Learning Plan’s. Included in my coursework was; Teaching the Exceptional Child in Regular Classroom, Educational Psychology and Child-Family Relations.
In an effort to strengthening family and community I co-taught English Language Acquisition with the schools E.L.A. specialist. I also played an integral role in participating in the school’s equity team meetings where I observed the process of creating a successful diverse and equitable educational culture.
I have an abundance to offer to the students, and feel that I am a very qualified. I am a dedicated, creative, hardworking individual with a strong work ethic, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
