Personal Statement

I taught introductory "Financial Accounting" for M.B.A. students on a part-time basis for 10 years as an instructor and adjunct member of the faculty at the University of St. Thomas. During that time I was employed at the St. Thomas Graduate School of Business as Program Director for an accelerated, full-time M.B.A. degree in Accounting for non-accounting majors, called the Accounting MBA Program. (As a graduate program director, I responded to inquiries, conducted MBA information sessions and accounting career presentations; interviewed and screened applicants for admission; and, advised students re: career and certification options upon graduation.) I have taught the three-credit, "Financial Accounting" core course to graduate business students in a variety of venues including: Day MBA, Evening MBA, Healthcare MBA, Masters in Business Communications, independent study, falls/spring semesters, four-week J-terms, summer sessions, four-week August sessions; and the one-credit, (pass / fail) "Accounting for Lawyers" semester course to J.D. students at the Hamline University School of Law. Most recently I was Assistant Dean - Finance and Administration for the Opus College of Business at St. Thomas fulfilling the roles of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), primary Budget Manager and Controller for the College; and Adviser to the Dean for financial plans and budget decisions. Prior to St. Thomas I worked in health care accounting and corporate finance as a hospital Controller/CFO, and as Assistant Vice President/Vice President of Finance and Treasurer for a health care holding company. I started my career in public accounting/auditing; and currently hold an Inactive C.P.A. Certificate from the Minnesota State Board of Accountancy. I am a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Minnesota Society of CPAs.
