Personal Statement
My experiences include working at Los Angeles Unified School District public schools and private school. I have taught and tutored students during classes and after school in various subjects of math such as Algebra I, Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Calculus.
In addition, I have worked closely with teachers in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, a readiness program to enhance learning and performance and to prepare students for college. In AVID, I led small group discussions among students to encourage them to think critically and analytically, and to answer to their own questions.
In Fall 2010, I was a long-term math substitute teacher for Algebra I, Algebra II and Trigonometry classes for one of the high schools in Los Angeles Unified School District. I was also a long-term substitute teacher for math and Mandarin subjects at another high school from January 2011 to March 2011. My duties were to organize, manage, prepare and carry out lessons as a regular classroom teacher. In addition to regular lessons, I created fun-art projects to enhance the students’ understanding of the subject matter.
Working with young individuals and teaching math have always been a big part of my life. My motto is "Make sure every individual student understands the subject matter thoroughly and has the help that he or she needs."
