Personal Statement

Let me start by telling you a little about myself. I have a BS degree in Architecture as well as a MS and Ph.D. in Psychology with a focus on statistics and psychophysiology. Now to the important stuff! I have been teaching behavioral statistics as well as mathematical statistics for about 8 years. Although both ultimately answer the same questions, the teaching methods and focuses are different. The good thing about this diversity in teaching methods is that it allows me to teach multiple ways of doing the same type of analysis thus I am able to tailor the tutoring to the strengths of the individual. I have been teaching statistics for 8 years now and also teach advanced statistics as well as research methods (experimental method protocols). I enjoy teaching statistics because it is not a course most students look forward to taking - I try to make it fun and meaningful by using real world examples (sports, real estate, psychological testing, finance, etc. anything to get to get a student to understand what is commonly thought of as "dry" material). Statistics can be fun as well as valuable. It can offer insight into less than informative news articles, medical research, internet polls and more. Once a student understands statistics, he or she is capable of critically evaluating those things people take for granted. Even statistics knowledge is power. Thanks for reading a little about my views and I hope to get some tutoring going. As an option for students enrolled in the same class (Fundamental Statistics perhaps), I can offer special pricing for groups. This is particularly helpful if you and colleagues/co-workers are getting together for a study group and need an extra professional point of view.
