Personal Statement

I'm Paul Piano, Cum Laude, Bachelor of Music composition from University of Dayton, and I'm a Nigerian, composer, teacher, conductor, ready to impact, improve, and develop music interest in any setting. I studied music education at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Lagos. I hold an Associate's degree from Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON)Diploma School of Music with piano concentration. I am the recipient of Ayo Bankole's Award for composition. As a student, I conducted choir and orchestra in the department of music, college of education, from my second year until I graduated. Also, upon graduation, I was recommended and offered a job to teach school band and choir at federal Government College, Ijanikin, Lagos. An examiner, I taught piano and music theory at the basic school of music (MUSON). My works have been performed locally and nationally in my country. I write in different genres for various media (instruments). I'm Ekitisonic," a piano work has been praised by the Norwegian embassy in Nigeria after an outstanding performance by Geir, an acclaimed Norwegian pianist. At the University of Dayton, I studied composition. I have taken master classes from such noted composers as Micheal Daugherty, Libby Larsen, and Rosephanye Powell. My "Funwa," a Christmas song and his gift to the University of Dayton community, was performed and recorded by the the department of music. I did perform with the University Chorale, Chorale Union, Ebony Heritage Singers, World Music Choir, and Gamelan Ensemble.
