Personal Statement

I am registering with WyzAnt as a general academic tutor and as a provider for two distinct skill sets. I was an excellent student in school and am well-versed in general academic subjects like math and reading. I have worked as a classroom teacher, lecturer, and one-on-one tutor. As a father of three nearly grown kids with varying school difficulties, I have experienced the drama of elementary, middle and high school as a parent. I have been a music teacher for 30 years, in classroom and one-on-one settings. My music lesson clientele consists of elementary, middle and high school students and adults from diverse economic and social backgrounds at all levels of experience. I offer lessons for piano, electric bass, guitar, voice, and arranging/composition/theory. Styles include: jazz, gospel, rock, sacred, folk, and other contemporary genres. I use my experience as a freelance musician in my teaching. I have a Master's in Jazz Piano and currently play keyboard for a soft-rock band, lead worship for an African-American church and direct the choir for a large-scale city-wide annual event. In addition to private teaching and performing, I do transcription, arranging, workshops and studio session work. I have worked in multiple tech jobs since 1979. I have experience in a variety of platforms, but my strongest work is with MS Access and VB which I have worked with for more than 15 years. I have been an application developer for government agencies, non-profits and small businesses. Past and ongoing projects include the maintenance and enhancement of: •A Project Tracking System for a telecommunications provider that services government and commercial installations •A student information system for a community adult education program •Reporting systems for violence studies at State department •Rental agreement tracking system for real estate company Tools: Primarily MS Access with VBA, DOS, other MS Office Applications I also have extensive experience with and advanced knowledge of the rest of the MS office suite, especially PowerPoint.
