Personal Statement
I am a native of Spain and a former Spanish instructor at the US Border Patrol and Immigration Officer Academies, Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers in Glynco, GA and Artesia, NM. I have experience with teaching, tutoring, translating and interpreting in the various Latin American and Spanish adaptations of the language. I worked in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama and Dominican Republic, long term and on assignment with the US Foreign Service.
I taught, tutored and developed courses in traditional grammar-oriented, as well as Total Immersion conversational methods, such as the "Rassias" (Dartmouth College) and the "Task-Based Language Teaching" (University of Hawaii), on courses developed for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and US Border Patrol Academies. I translated books for the US Navy Underwater Laboratory, New London, CT and the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Glynco, GA, and interpreted at US Federal Courts and at high level meetings of officials of the US State Department.
