Personal Statement
I have had about 10 years experience tutoring starting when I was in college. I inquired about a tutoring job for a 2nd grade girl in spelling. The family was Spanish speaking as their first language and unable to help this girl with her spelling. After just a few weeks of tutoring her, she started receiving A's on all her tests at school. This little girl not only became more confident in her school work, but also wanted to do well in all her subjects. Several years later, I was given an opportunity to start tutoring another little girl in her reading, spelling, math, etc. She is now in the 2nd grade and she has become a straight A student. She was recently rewarded in front of the entire school for being on the Principal's List. I was very proud of her hard work. I still continue to tutor her once a week because she enjoys getting challenged and learning things before they are taught in school.
Last summer, I also had the privilege of tutoring a Pre-K girl in letter recognition. Though she had a great teacher in Pre-K, she desperately needed help with learning her letter names. This student has been the most challenging, but I can say that with God's help, I was able to help her recognize all the letters of alphabet. She is currently in a private school Kindergarten class and became "Student of the Month." I am also very proud of her hard work and the achievements she has made. This is my greatest desire as a tutor: to help kids who are struggling with the basics of reading, writing, math, etc., and give them a few points on how they can see and understand better. In the end, I receive the greatest reward, their achievements and success in learning. Now they can take what is taught to help themselves do better and feel better, too.
