Personal Statement

Teaching is my passion. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2009 with my B.A. in Psychology and my Masters in Education. I spent a year teaching 6th/7th grade social studies at a bilingual school in Colombia. Upon returning to the states I worked as a full-time tutor for a year at Huntington Learning Center, and then was fortunate enough to find my dream job teaching 2nd grade in Los Angeles. I specialize in working with elementary age students to increase their reading comprehension, vocabulary skills, and fluency. But I also love helping students to achieve their full potential in mathematics, science, writing, and history. I love teaching students how to become more responsible for their own learning, and assisting them in staying organized and practicing effective study skills. I firmly believe that every student has the potential to excel; it's merely a matter of discovering what learning methods work best for them and presenting material in a new and unique way.
