Personal Statement

My focus in tutoring is to reach you, the student at a level that involves your personal learning style(s), interests, and readiness so you begin to enjoy the learning process and are completely engaged in it. Using strategies and methods from differentiated instruction, disciplinary literacy and best practices derived from brain research, I offer you tutoring that will not only allow you to understand the subject at hand but will also provide a strong foundation that will ensure future success. My background is in the public schools were I taught primarily at the elementary level but am certified for grades 1-8. As a bilingual teacher I was trained in developing English and Spanish language proficiency in students whose first language was not English. As a result I am especially adept in tutoring students who are having difficulty with reading comprehension, fluency, writing skills, and literature in both English and Spanish. I have also received training in the assessment and instruction of students with dyslexia. Although not certified in World History, Social Studies, Philosophy, and Religion, I have an extensive amount of knowledge in these subjects and can assist you in them as well. As a trainer of teachers I feel qualified to teach students of all ages, ranging from early childhood to adults. I have also prepared students and teachers for different types of state assessments and can provide instruction in test taking strategies and skills. My life experiences alone, both as an educator and a member of the United States Air Force, have given me a wealth of knowledge and understanding that will enhance your learning experience tremendously. I offer my tutoring services to you, the student, as an invitation to embark on a journey that will not only allow you to be successful in what you are currently studying but will also give you a joy of learning that will last for a lifetime.
