Personal Statement
Hello, I am currently a student in St. George earning my Bachelor's in Social Work through the University of Utah. I began my undergraduate work pursuing a degree in Elementary Education but upon student teaching I found a love for working individually with children and focusing on how to combat academic issues by looking at the child's strengths and looking at the child from a holistic point of view.
I have experience working as an elementary tutor in areas including math, science, writing, and reading comprehension. I worked as an after school tutor for two years at Kuhio Elementary in Honolulu, Hawaii while attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I was a student teacher in a 5th grade classroom for one semester in the fall of 2010. I have also been an aide to teachers in kindergarten and grade 3.
I recognize that one style of tutoring does not fit all. I am willing to change my style of tutoring to fit the needs of the student. I love to sing, play the piano and violin. Bringing academics to life weather through music, poetry, or hands-on activities is something I am passionate about.
I am inspired when working with children because of their optimism, love of life, and resiliency. My plans for the future include graduating with my Bachelor's in May 2013 and then getting my Master's to become a family and child therapist.
