Personal Statement
Dear Friends!
I love children, adults, education and 1-on-1 tutoring! It has been my pleasure to teach children from many different walks of life a whole variety of subject matter for almost 10 years!
My experience:
I recently received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Columbia and Lesley Universities. In both schools I observed children and worked with them for all of my classes in Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Disability, Political Issues in Education and more. I did my practicum with 3rd grade students in an outstanding classroom in Boston, Massachusetts.
I received my Bachelors degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology where I studied child and adolescent psychology, personality, cognition, social psychology, adult learning and development, motivation and statistics for social sciences. My minor was Business.
I also studied Hebrew and Judaic Studies for the past 10 years and am fluent in Hebrew and can teach the alphabet and basic conversational Hebrew.
My teaching experience:
I have taught Hebrew extensively to adults and children. The format that I use is outstanding - it integrates reading, writing, speaking and a variety of different exercises that are truly fun and motivating for children and adults to move quickly through learning. An adult can learn Basic Hebrew in 10-12 one hour sessions with me. Depending on the child, they can learn Hebrew in Double or triple that amount of time. I usually teach Judaic studies for a 1/2 hour and Hebrew for the other 1/2 hour with children, which is why it takes 24-36 sessions. I can also teach Hebrew in Hebrew.
I got the bulk of my tutoring experience while working with students on varies subject matters doing a pull-out program for students in New Jersey. There, I worked with 17 students 1-5 times a week in school. All of the students improved significantly.
Philosophy:
I believe that it's very important to have the right balance of teaching kids what they want to learn and guiding them through the learning that will help them through their studies and in the future. When students come up with what they need to know, they learn it better, remember it better and are more interested in the subject matter.
I learned many progressive teaching methodologies in my nearly 10 years of experience with children and adults and I'm looking forward to putting them to great use.
