Education and Qualifications

I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with an accounting major and communications minor. I am certified to teach and taught all academic subjects and SAT- and HSPT-prep while working for a local, nationally known learning center. I am currently employed by the Fairfax County Public Schools as an SAT-prep teacher. During the past 5 years I have operated my own tutoring business and worked as an independent contractor for several tutoring companies, receiving certifications in SAT-prep, Algebra, Geometry, k-6 (all subjects), grammar, phonics, reading, vocabulary and writing. I am experienced at working with students to build their organization and time management skills and improve their study habits. Also, as a tax accountant, I have worked with college students taking business courses.

Personal Statement

After retiring from a successful career with the Federal government in Washington, DC, I used my teaching and public speaking skills to begin my second career as a teacher in Northern VA. As the owner of PathFinder Tutoring, LLC, my company provides exceptional, 1:1 tutoring services to students in the privacy and comfort of their own homes. I am fortunate to easily establish a good rapport with my students, regardless of their age. This, in turn, has resulted in my being an effective teacher and mentor. I work with my students to build and maintain good organization and study skills and, most of all, increase their overall self-confidence. I can't imagine a better after-retirement career!
