Personal Statement

Hello! I am a person with a deep love for learning, not just memorizing facts. My undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Theology have taught me the wonders and joy of life-long learning. I highly value one-on-one tutoring, as group settings can leave many questions unanswered. I have been a tutor to friends and family, from mathematics to language. For the past several months, I have worked as a teacher in a school for refugees and immigrants teaching math and computer skills. I enjoyed it, but valued most the time I spent one-on-one in tutoring. My special skill lies in finding new ways to communicate a concept patiently, never making the student feel embarrassed or as if they are wrong. I want you or your child to be excited by learning, not apprehensive. I want you or your child to discover and be confident in their own capacity for learning. My kind and gentle disposition allows the student to feel at ease. I have never raised my voice against a student. The only moments in which I have been impatient have been with myself if I failed to sufficiently explain a concept!
