Personal Statement

Hello! I am a BYU student majoring in International Relations and minoring in Arabic. I am available to tutor Monday through Saturday. Start time may vary, depending on location. M T W Th -- 8 AM to 10 AM, 5 PM to 9 PM F -- 8 AM to 10 AM, 4 PM to 10 PM S -- 10 AM to 10 PM I specialize in English, Reading and Writing skills, essay-writing, and test-preparation, but I am also available to tutor in Pre-Algebra, Linear Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, American History, Government and Politics, Photoshop, Photography, Computer literacy, Bible studies, Public speaking, Elementary education, Piano, and Chess. qualifications: -- I graduated in the top 10 percent of Washington State's graduating seniors, and scored in the 98th percentile on the SAT. -- I received Presidential Scholarships from Clark University and Hartwick College, and the Leadership Potential Scholarship from Willamette University. -- While in high school, I enrolled in AP Biology, AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP English Literature, and AP Comparative Government. I prepared independently for the AP US History and AP Psychology tests. I am familiar with the structure and mechanics of the SAT, and the learning required for the AP and SAT subject tests on these topics. -- I am a mentor through Provo Youth Mentoring and a tutor at Independence High School. Before coming to Utah, I worked for two years as an equestrian instructor for disabled youths. In 2010, I traveled to Brazil to teach English and mentor elementary age children. In high school, I tutored new students in writing and organizational skills. Regardless of the subject, I emphasize understanding and persistence over speed. I believe it is more important that students understand a subject conceptually before solving problems mechanically. Whether writing a term paper, preparing for the SAT, or simply exploring your academic opportunities, I am ready to help you. If you do not come to enjoy whichever subject or realm we study together, than I have failed indeed! Your success is my ultimate goal.
