Personal Statement

They say, a head is more than a funnel to the stomach. I grew up hating school hours and always had an excuse to miss class time. As a result of this, I did badly in class especially in Mathematics and sciences. When I went to High School, there were these two teachers who helped me a great deal open up. Due to their teaching methods and their approach, I started loving class time and I was anticipating their classes. This greatly changed my academic standing from being an average student to being the best in my class. That was the breakthrough I needed to do well, aim high and believe that I can achieve great. I have used this experience to tutor people (young and old). I consider tutoring, a calling. I believe that there are a lot of students out there who may be good at something but think that they are not good because they lack a breakthrough. A good experienced tutor is an asset which must be used. When tutoring, I prefer to go at the pace of the student, talk with them and let them participate actively. The approach I use to tutor is not solid but fluid as I have to adapt it to different personalities, backgrounds and ages. That is why it is important for me as a tutor to know and understand something about the student. My background in Psychology and my experience in tutoring helps me a lot to help those who sincerely need help. I challenge my student always never to say never but to hold their heads high and say Yes I can, Let's do it. When tutoring, I am fun and try to make the subject matter as fun as possible so that as knowledge makes that entry into the students' brain, it is as pleasant as possible. I have a particular connection to Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry and Calculus), Philosophy and History because many find them as difficult as I did. I can help transform the difficulty into possibilities. I have also tutor Theology, Bible and the Religions for those who have interest in these.
