Personal Statement
My name is Alan. I have a BS in mathematics from VA TECH. I have taught and tutored math for more than 30 years. I have successfully tutored students in 4th - 6th grade math, pre-algebra, algebra 1 & 2, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, calculus and statistics.
I can help take the "mystery out of mathematics" by explaining why the numbers work like they do.
Many students struggle with math. This often happens because they skip over the basics and try to do the "fancy stuff" first. You can Not learn to read without first learning the "ABCs", you can Not learn to do mathematics without knowing "basic Math Facts". Once these "Math Facts" are mastered, the "fancy stuff" like Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, or even Calculus are not as scary or as bewildering as they often appear.
I will access students needs, strengthen weaknesses, and move toward the student's success and mastery of any elementary, high school,or college math class.
