Personal Statement
I am back for the 2 school year to help with your tutoring needs once again. Depending on how this semester goes, I may be adding several computer science classes to my curriculum. All previous subjects are still available.
I am a senior at Westminster College studying business and computer information systems. I have been tutoring for six years. I have experience dealing with all ages; the youngest I have tutored was a six-year-old needing help with elementary math while the oldest was a 27-year old economics student. Whatever your tutoring needs, I can help.
Multiple Lesson Discount: I am available for both long-term and short-term tutoring. I prefer long-term tutoring commitments, because this allows me to assess the students problems with the material and address them as they come up. It also allows me to learn more about the student and individually tailor a teaching style that fits the students needs. To encourage this, I offer a reduced rate (equal to 1/2 hour of time, or $20) for any session of at least an hour length after the first during a given week. However, I can also tutor for an upcoming test or an soon-to-be-due assignment.
Group Discount: Occasionally, students will ask me to tutor multiple students during the same time period. Common examples of these are two friends in the same class or two siblings. I am willing to do this, and I offer group rates. For each student after the first, the base price of the session increase by $10. This will not affect the cost for travel time, but it will be affected by discounts offered through both WyzAnt and myself. disclaimer: The overall effectiveness of a tutor decreases with the number of students because I have to divert my attention between them. With two students in the same class, this is not usually noticeable; with two different classes or more than two students, there may be a noticeable difference in the effectiveness of the tutor. It is to account for this loss of effectiveness that I charge a lower average per student for groups.
Travel Policy: I prefer to meet somewhere close to Westminster campus if possible. Common safe locations are the library on campus, or several public locations in Sugarhouse plaza such as Barnes and Noble or the public library. I am willing to travel away from this area, but I will charge 1/2 the travel time in addition to the tutoring if it takes longer than a half hour to get there. An exception to this rule is the downtown public library, which is easily accessible for me, and is also a safe, public location to meet. I will not charge travel time if this is your preferred location.
Cancellation Policy: If you notify me at least 6 hours prior to your scheduled tutoring appointment, there's no trouble at all. If you cancel within a short time of your scheduled time, I will charge you a partial amount for lost opportunities and scheduling inconveniences. If you cancel with between 1-6 hours left to your appointment, I will charge 1/2 the scheduled time, with a minimum of 1/2 hour. If you cancel within one hour of your appointment, I will charge 3/4 scheduled time, with a minimum of 1 hour. Signing up for an appointment implies acceptance of this cancellation policy.
