Personal Statement

My name is Emily, and I am a third grade teacher with Oklahoma City Public Schools. I have had experience teaching 3rd through 5th grades and am in my second year as a teacher. My previous tutoring experiences have been during college when I tutored elementary students in reading and writing after their school day once a week. As a teacher, I have also tutored students in my school during breaks, in reading and math, to help them get where they need to be in order to be successful in their end of the year testing. Finally, I have worked very closely with our ELL team at my school and have gained experience and knowledge in helping students that may need assistance in reading, vocabulary, and grammar who may not have English as their first language. In my two years as an elementary teacher, I have been a part of our Curriculum Instruction Committee where I have helped establish how our school will implement it curriculum in the classroom. I am also our building's Response to Intervention specialist; this role includes ensuring that students who are failing or struggling in their courses of reading and math are getting interventions and assistance in their classroom to help bring up their grades, as well as get extra assistance if a learning disability is identified. I assist teachers in proper interventions for their struggling students and provide advice where it is needed. Being involved in these roles at my school has allowed me to become strong in identifying students' needs and getting them the help that they need to become successful. I feel that these experiences will help me to be a strong tutor with the ability to narrow in on students needs. I am always willing to travel for students and enjoy watching students reach their goals and become successful. I hope that you will allow me to give that success to your student as their tutor.
