Personal Statement
I am a certified elementary teacher with a master's degree in early childhood. I believe that all children can learn and prefer to use a hands-on method of learning and teaching. I taught in the child development center at Ferris State University for 2 years and taught at Vestaburg Elementary for 5 years. I have taught everything from preschool to 8th grade and am qualified to teach all core subject areas. I have minors in Language Arts and Social Studies so these are my specialties. My last year teaching at Vestaburg, I taught a Curriculum Attack program. Curriculum Attack was a project-based enrichment and remediation program for all subject areas. Designed to be an individualized program, I created my own curriculum based on assessments of students’ needs and strengths. I worked with their core subject area teachers to reinforce the skills they were studying in their other classes and to advance those students who were ready to move to the next level. I designed a curriculum that used media, online classrooms, and current events to create a relevant and interesting learning environment.
Through earning a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education online through the University of Phoenix I developed online skills and other work related experiences. I have learned proficient computer skills as well as team-building skills.
I have 3 children and am expecting baby number 4 so I have chosen to work from home to allow me to spend more time with my children and to care for our home.
