Personal Statement
As a hard-working individual with a voracious appetite for knowledge, self-betterment, and growth, I have often returned to school and have achieved a high level of education while working a variety of jobs. Challenges inspire me, and the year I was accepted to Wellesley College, that institution ranked as the #1 college in the nation. Although I have a strong background in plants, I also have a love for teaching, and am particularly fond of subjects such as English, Spanish, logic, and the sciences. Nonetheless, I am also quite apt at teaching algebra, geometry, and several other subjects.
As a high school student, I was on the honor roll for all four years before going to Wellesley College and graduating with a BA in International Relations, which involved classes in economics, politics, and history, as well as sociology and anthropology. During this time, I tutored through Wellesley Word on Wheels. Subjects tutored included English and Math (grades 1-8). I also have an associates applied science in ornamental horticulture and have conducted plant research at both Cornell Cooperative Extension as well as at the University of MN, where I also took several graduate courses in plant pathology. I have a TEFL certificate and have also taught English as a second language to adults for the Fall 2006 semester at the Escuela de Idiomas Niños Heroes in Querétaro, Mexico. I have also been a teacher's assistant at the University of MN (Fall 2009-Spring 2010) in an undergraduate course for Woody & Perennial Plant Identification, which involved teaching my own lab, assisting during lectures, grading, and occasionally delivering my own lectures. As part of my research at this university, I also traveled and gave plant-related presentations.
As your tutor, you can count on me being:
-Diligent, conscientious, reliable, honest, and dedicated
-Patient, adaptable, and dedicated
-Attentive to student needs, and willing to work towards each individual's ideal learning method
-Considerate
I have loved returning to school and learning, and I would like to impart that enthusiasm unto others. I sincerely believe that I can help any child achieve their goals and extend their capabilities, and hope you will give me a chance to prove this.
Attentively,
Andrea
