"Hello, my name is Karen I am an educator who loves learning! I believe that knowledge is the gateway to understanding the world and ourselves! I love the language of math and sciences as well as literature and storytelling. I utilize my expertise in drama to help students learn study strategies and my practice with mindfulness to help students eliminate anxiety related learning blocks. I’m dedicated to helping students feel confident and motivated to learn.

I am certified 1-8 and I have 7 years specific experience in third grade as well as 8 years in grade levels 1, 2, 5 and 6).

I am a holistic educator and I develop lessons based on a student’s natural learning style. After I know a student's natural learning style, I utilize that strategy to help them build confidence in their own abilities. I approach all subjects with the reasoning of 'why it's important' and 'how' the knowledge will benefit the student. As with all learning, when we understand why it's important we are more apt to be motivated to learn. In order to reduce test anxiety and develop effective test taking strategies, I guide students in methods of 'how to learn' that can be applied to any subject matter. I share breathing techniques, positive mindset practices, and memory improvement.

I love science! I fascinated with what makes up the world and want to make sense of natural events. I help students develop exploratory questions and hypotheses to expand their scientific thinking. I also use current scientific issues to develop their scientific literacy. I have over 9 years experience teaching elementary science.

I teach language comprehension skills (facts, vocabulary, concepts, inference) along with word recognition skills (phonics, decoding, sight recognition) to develop a skilled reader. I choose both fiction and nonfiction literature based on students interests. I have 6 years in third grade ELA strategies.
