Whether teaching middle school classes in person and online, tutoring elementary and high school students, or helping college undergraduates polish their essays, I have spent the last decade sharing my passion about how language and history are so much more than dry sets of forms, facts, and rules. I use fun mnemonics and visuals so even students who profess a dislike of language find themselves gaining a command of vocabulary and grammar. I highlight narrative and thematic lines that make Social Studies topics relatable. When students see how the sweep of history is an epic story populated by dynamic people, they grow eager to learn. It delights me when my eighth graders report that they find they know more than their parents about issues like the Electoral College and Reconstruction, which still reverberate in news headlines today. I have taught students from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and see uniformly good outcomes. Students I prepare for the National Latin Exam consistently receive recognition for outstanding achievement, with several attaining perfect scores.

My philosophy of teaching is rooted in the Great Books Program at St. John's College, where I earned my degree. Studying original works by authors from Plato to Einstein (often in the original language) gave me insight into cross-curricular interrelations even in unlikely areas, such as between language and mathematics. Highlighting these connections has proven indispensable in helping students achieve learning breakthroughs. My education continues with numerous programs in pedagogy and history, notably through the Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History in New York and at Gettysburg College.
