"I am a PhD scientist and currently a microbiologist at WashU. I have spend a considerable amount of my career teaching science/math concepts in both a class format and an individualized format. I have tutored a range of people: high school students preparing for SAT testing, undergraduates taking chemistry/biology/microbiology courses, and graduate students in scientific writing.
I have enjoyed teaching students who come to science and math from different perspectives, some who want to pass a formal examination and some who want to dive deeper into the topic. I believe the most exciting part about teaching is that each individual learns differently, and requires different tools to aid them along their journey. In addition, my hope with each person I tutor is that they become confident in their own capacity to absorb, learn and apply information. Sometimes we just need to figure out what tools work for us.
I have a Minor in Mathematics from Brandeis University. Additionally, as a microbiologist, I use a combination of probability, statistics, algebra, geometry, and differential equations to perform my research. I have had experience tutoring high school students preparing for the SAT math section, and undergraduates taking probability courses.
I have a BS and PhD in Biology and Microbiology, respectively. My graduate work and current research requires me to use concepts from molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, and chemistry. I have taught multiple courses and lab courses in biology and microbiology. In addition to class instruction, I have tutored students individually in a number of these concepts. Students that I work with have a variety of goals, from exam prep to improvements in written/verbal communication in science.
Please contact me with questions about my experiences, and capacity to help you get where you need to go in the world." less...
