"Throughout my grade school education, I had many inspiring teachers in English, Spanish, and music. It was very hard to pick a major for college, but I eventually picked music. I spent 4 years attempting a Music Education degree where I earned teaching experience in various classrooms and schools. However, a permanent injury to my shoulder caused me to realize I would no longer be capable of playing my instruments in a professional capacity. While I was devastated by my injury, I was determined to finish school. I took a 5th year to complete my undergraduate degree with a broader focus in the Arts that included more language classes in both English and Spanish. These courses helped me realize my new goals of becoming a TESOL/ESL teacher. I am currently enrolled in a TESOL certification program and am continuing to pursue fluency in Spanish. I have plans for a graduate degree in linguistics with a focus on teaching and language acquisition.

In high school and college, I was often asked to assist my peers. I love helping people, and I especially get excited when I can help someone understand difficult concepts. I also love seeing how individuals become more confident in their writing and speaking abilities and see how they begin to express themselves more. It’s very inspiring to be apart of someone’s learning and growth process! I find that I also learn a lot from teaching, not just about the material, but about my students and about myself. I think those connections are the most valuable in a teaching career.

I have always made very high scores in evaluations for English and Spanish. My ability in essay writing won me several scholarships during my undergraduate degree.
