"I'm a 22 year old counseling psychology major. I was a tutor for two years at St. Andrews University in the DeTamble library writing center. I also was a general tutor in the schools center for academic success. While psychology is my primary focus, I have a well versed understanding of writing in MLA and APA formats with the resources to help others develop an understanding of those styles as well as other styles. In high school I considered being a teacher and took two teacher cadet classes which had me spend half a semester each time aiding a teacher and observing classrooms. The first time I shadowed a middle school English teacher where I helped create a lesson plan to teach on the book "Touching Spirit Bear." The second level of the class, I shadowed an eleventh grade honors English teacher at the recommendation of my instructor. Some of my duties included grading essays, helping to design tests and create lesson plans.
I've always enjoyed being able to help people further their knowledge and understanding of a subject that I have a better grasp on. Watching a student grow through tutoring sessions is such a gratifying feeling because you are helping them not only reach their potential, but giving them the tools to help create study and research habits for college. I enjoy being able to give a student one on one attention in the area they may be struggling with. I understand that it isn't always easy to admit your struggling with something in a classroom setting. When I help someone who is struggling it sometimes opens them up to a subject that they couldn't enjoy before. It is a gratifying feeling to help uncover someone's hidden passion." less...
