"I love teaching!! I love to see the light come on in the eyes of my students when I've been able to explain something to them, and they finally “get it.” That look that I see on his or her face makes my heart leap and my spirit soar, because it means that I’m doing something that I've always been meant to do.

"I love teaching!! I love to see the light come on in the eyes of my students when I've been able to explain something to them, and they finally “get it.” That look that I see on his or her face makes my heart leap and my spirit soar, because it means that I’m doing something that I've always been meant to do.

I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in English. I've had training in English language learning as well as academic, business and creative writing. I publish content on several online platforms, and I write freelance with an international web content firm. In 2006, I studied for and passed the GED exam with a high score that earned me a full 60 hour college scholarship. I can help walk you through the process of getting your GED as well as getting a successful start in college. I regularly tutor my sitter and both of my nieces in high school and college content.

I have over 750 hours in the classroom, working with students, teachers, support staff and parents. I did my student teaching at Spring Wood Middle School in Hanover Park. I’m a mom to 7 kids, ages 9 to 31, and I have four grandchildren. I love to research and write, and I love being a student myself! I kept a 4.0 GPA all 5 years at Harper College while also being enrolled at a university, where I maintained a 3.8 GPA. I know what it’s like to be on both the President’s list and the Dean’s list. I'm familiar with the Harper campus and many of its faculty. My work has been published in the Harper Anthology and Harper's Point of View.

What is my specific intent for my tutoring students? It’s to empower them and instill in them a sense of pride, accomplishment and capability. One of the most essential things that a teacher can do is teach her students how to fish, rather than just giving them a fish. In this way, her students will always be able to accomplish and succeed on their own! If I had to explain what my teaching “specialty” is, I’d say that it’s meeting my students where they’re at and moving them forwar" less...
