"I have been teaching at Columbia in the Statistics Department since 2009, where I teach Introductory Statistics courses and Statistical Computing with SAS. I have extensive tutoring experience. Below is a description of the courses I teach.

INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICAL REASONING

Students learn to reason with and think critically about the statistical information they consume on a daily basis from political polls to research studies. Students critique the source of the research (journal articles) plus the media's interpretation of the results.

Students learn the core framework for reasoning with uncertainty in order to make a statistical decision. They gain the insight and understanding that there will always be uncertainty in the results of research studies. The aim of a good researcher is to minimize this uncertainty through good study design and to be able to reason with the uncertainty that remains.

INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICS

Students learn the core reasoning involved in making a statistical decision plus many of the core statistical techniques needed to do their own analysis including simple regression, multiple regression and analysis of variance. Students also get exposed to the use of SAS and SPSS.

STATISTICAL COMPUTING IN SAS

Data handling in SAS including SAS INPUT, reading and writing raw and system files, data set subsetting, concatenating, merging, updating and working with arrays. SAS MACROS, common SAS functions, and using graphics in SAS.

Review of SAS procedures and output for exploratory data analysis including analysis of categorical data, dates and longitudinal data, correlation and regression, nonparametric comparisons, ANOVA, multiple regression and multivariate data analysis." less...
