"My name is Mitchell S. I am currently a junior integrated language arts major at Kent State University. I have over 100 hours of teaching experience working with high school students in ELA classrooms. I have field experience at Buchtel High School, Ellet High School, Tallmadge Middle School, and the Summit Juvenile Detention Center, where I spent my time as a teacher, one on one tutor, and group tutor. During these experiences, I worked alongside classroom teachers in literature classes to help students evaluate texts such as The Yellow Wallpaper. I incorporated my own lesson plans that I created to teach flash fiction at the Detention Center. I helped teach several different levels of literature classes and one AP literature class at Ellet High School, where I taught students about literary devices and how to conduct effective close reading. At Buchtel High School I collaborated with high school students who desire to be teachers and shared with them my knowledge of lesson planning, classroom management, and several other topics in educaiton. I am currently assisting an 8th grade language arts class at Tallmadge Middle School in teaching literary analysis and composition.

My major is preparing me to be an ELA classroom teacher for secondary students. To prepare for this, I have gained extensive knowledge of English, grammar, British literature, Irish literature, American literature, Shakespeare, journalism writing, poetry writing, creative writing, essay writing and editing, peer review, and current ELA teaching standards. Some classes I have taken include Creative Writing, Teaching Reading in Secondary Schools, Great Books Since the 1700s, Teaching Language and Composition, British Literature from 1900 to the Present, British and Irish Literature, College Writing I and II, American Gothic Literature, and Educational Psychology. I have experience teaching reading and writing skills I learned in these classes to students aged 7-12th grade in the schools listed above.
