"I am a certified high school math teacher teaching Algebra and Geometry. The certification process ensures that a teacher is able to use a variety of instruction techniques to help all students learn math regardless of their natural ability. In my 4 years years of teaching high school math, I’ve enjoyed working with the geniuses but especially those who struggle to pass the last math class needed to graduate from high school. In fact, “the struggle and perseverance of math” is one of the important skills that employers value from persistent math students.
I can give students the employer’s perspective to help them understand the real world uses of their math based on my prior careers in manufacturing, engineering, and finance. Along with real world uses, I can also bring some of my classroom’s online games and activities to tutoring sessions. The online games and activities are offered to supplement the online lesson in between tutoring sessions. There would be no extra charge for these lesson reinforcement activities.
A typical tutoring session would involve:
>messaging or calling prior to the tutoring session to identify the subject and topics that the student would like to cover
>determining the workbook material to use prior to the tutoring session student or tutor supplied (I can supply reference material for most topics at no cost to the student)
>asking some probing questions to gauge how much the student already knows about the topics as we start the session
>explaining the topic’s math big concepts and the related properties and relationships
>working an example problem step by step with the student asking and answering questions
>asking questions as the student attempts another problem with less guidance
>confirming the student’s understanding through questions and student solutions
>setting targets and topics for the next session" less...
