"I understand that there are many different learning styles and that every student works differently. Though I do always try to incorporate multiple methods in each lesson (i.e. visual examples, hands-on techniques, verbal and aural cues), I like to focus on what works best for each individual student. I know that it can be frustrating for students when they struggle with a subject or concept, so I do my best to bring the material to life and make the experience enjoyable. Whenever possible, I like to incorporate students' interests into my examples and make connections to the material through those interests. As an aspiring teacher, I truly want to help students reach their fullest potential and beyond. I find such joy in helping a student succeed and would love to give my guidance and knowledge to as many students as I can. I am always open to suggestions and outside resources that parents and students would like to provide. Also, I am flexible with payment. I generally set $35/hr as my usual fee. If you would like to have a group lesson of 2-3 students for the hour, the rate lowers to $30/hr per person and down to $25/hr if there are four or more people in the group. I do also ask that if I have to drive more than 25 minutes to get to a location that we would increase the rate to $40/hr to accommodate extra gas and time. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...

Education and Qualifications
|school:||University of the Pacific|
Hi, I'm Jen! I am currently in my fourth year at University of the Pacific, majoring in Diversified Education. I will be graduating in May of 2017 with a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Human Development and a minor in Psychology. In the Fall of 2017, I will complete my multiple subject teaching credential and start coursework towards a Master's degree. While I do live in Stockton while I go to school, I frequently go home to the East Bay Area on weekends, so I am available to tutor students from both areas. I have one year of experience tutoring students in Algebra 1 and Pre-algebra. I did mostly one-on-one work after school to help students improve their grades. I also have an additional year of experience tutoring elementary students in math, especially focused on multiplication facts, fractions, and percents, and reading and vocabulary. This work was a combination of one-on-one and small group work in an after school program. We played different math games to help understand important concepts and completed various reading and vocabulary activities that the students really enjoyed. I have had the amazing opportunity to teach English to children in a small village in China one summer. While there, I did a lot of work with vocabulary. I made flashcards with pictures that related to the vocabulary words, we played games that helped the children understand the vocabulary terms, matching the words to the pictures, and my professor and I even came up with a song that incorporated the vocabulary words, which made learning more fun!
